Medical groups, October 25, 2026. Each group is counted once, by its core specialty, size and owner.
Medical group profiles
Every medical group profile shows its specialty, size and owner, each location, the clinicians who practice there and who runs it
One record per group, keyed to its Medicare group enrollment and NPIs, so a group with five names and three NPIs is still one account.
The overview shows specialty, size, owner and identifiers
Group type, core and secondary specialties, practitioner count, ownership model, PAC ID and NPIs, and the EHR it runs.
Locations show where the group sees patients
Each site with its type, from practice sites to surgery centers and hospitals, with address, phone and the clinicians there.
Clinicians show who practices at the group
Physicians, nurse practitioners and PAs by specialty and site, with their training and procedures.
Leaders and staff show who runs the group
The administrator, medical directors, billing and front desk teams, by role and level.

Group view
See who owns a medical group, where it practices and which clinicians work at each location
A group’s name rarely tells you who signs. Dmand AI shows the owner above the group, whether a health system, an MSO or the physicians themselves, and the locations below it with the clinicians at each. Across Dmand AI, 457K+ sites and 2.1M+ clinicians are linked to their medical groups.

Signals
Track when a medical group acquires a practice, opens a location or changes leaders
Groups grow by buying practices and adding sites, and each move changes who decides. Save groups to a list and Dmand AI flags these changes as it finds them, with the date.
Acquisitions
A group adds a practice, and the new site appears under it with its clinicians.
New locations
A group opens a site, so its footprint and patient reach change.
Leadership changes
A new administrator or medical director takes over, often with a fresh budget.
Data quality
How Dmand AI keeps medical group data reliable: Medicare enrollment, one record per group and a labeled owner
Groups merge, rename and add NPIs. Every group record is keyed to its Medicare group enrollment and NPIs, so the account stays the same while the details change.

Keyed to the PAC ID and NPIs
A group’s Medicare enrollment and every NPI it holds point to one record.
Members from Medicare enrollment
Clinicians are tied to a group from the enrollment records that assign their billing to it.
An owner on every labeled group
Each group carries an ownership model, so clinician-owned groups never mix with MSO or health system groups in a list.
Monthly refresh and fixes on request
Records update every month, and a wrong owner or location can be flagged from the profile.

Questions
Physician group and medical group data FAQs
What buyers ask before they choose a source for medical group data.
What is a physician group?
A physician group, also called a medical group or group practice, is an organization through which two or more clinicians practice and bill under one name. Most enroll with Medicare as a group, which gives them a PAC ID. A group can be owned by its physicians, a health system, a management company or a corporate chain.
How many physician groups are there in the US?
Dmand AI tracks 181K+ US medical groups: 121K+ with 2 to 5 practitioners, 38K+ with 6 to 20, 15K+ with 21 to 100 and 6.2K+ with more than 100. Solo practices are counted separately, at 235K+. Counts as of October 25, 2026.
What is the difference between a medical group, a physician group and a group practice?
They mean the same thing: several clinicians practicing together under one organization. "Medical group" is common for large groups and health system groups, "group practice" for smaller ones. Dmand AI uses medical group for all of them and keeps solo practices separate.
How can I find out who owns a medical group?
Every labeled group in Dmand AI shows its ownership model, such as clinician owned, health system, DSO or MSO, or corporate chain, and its parent organization. 137K+ groups are clinician owned, 14K+ are owned by health systems and 7.9K+ by a DSO or MSO. The glossary explains what an MSO is.
Can I see all the locations of a medical group?
Yes. Each group lists its locations with their type, from practice sites to surgery centers, hospitals, FQHCs and therapy clinics, with address, phone and the clinicians at each site. About 59K groups practice at more than one site.
Can I see which physicians work in a medical group?
Yes. Each group lists its physicians, nurse practitioners and PAs by specialty and site, from the Medicare records that assign their billing to the group. 2.1M+ clinicians are linked to their medical groups.
Can I filter medical groups by specialty, size and location?
Yes. Combine specialty, single or multi-specialty, size band, ownership, state and city, number of sites and EHR in one search, then save or export the groups.
What EHR does a medical group use?
Each group’s record shows the EHR it runs, with vendor and product, from the group’s own sites or its clinicians’ records. Filter groups by EHR in the app to list the ones on the system you sell into. The EHR and technology data page covers the filters.
Does Dmand AI include health system and academic medical groups?
Yes. 14K+ groups are owned by health systems and 1.1K+ by academic centers, each placed under its system in the org hierarchy, beside clinician-owned and corporate groups.
How is a medical group different from a solo practice?
A solo practice is one clinician at one location; a medical group has two or more clinicians. Dmand AI keeps them apart so a list of groups is not padded with single-clinician offices. The independent practice data page covers solo practices.
Is there a free list of the largest medical groups?
Yes. Dmand AI’s ranked lists show the largest US medical groups by physicians and by practice locations, with state lists too, and each group links to a free profile.
Can I try Dmand AI’s medical group data for free?
Yes, 30 days free, self-serve, with no credit card. Search groups, open their locations and clinicians, and save a list during the trial.
