Freshness
Dmand AI records refresh every month, and a published count changes on every page at the same time
The counts on this page are the figures every Dmand AI page uses. When a new set is adopted, the site, the profiles and the directories change together, so no page carries an older number.
Counted from records, not estimated
Each figure is a count of Dmand AI’s own records on a stated date, not a survey estimate or a projection.
Rounded down, never up
Published counts round down to the nearest thousand or hundred thousand, so a figure never claims more records than exist.
Refreshed monthly, checked on request
HCP, executive and site records refresh every month as public sources publish and Dmand AI’s own data updates. Contacts are checked when you ask for them.

Questions
Healthcare data coverage FAQs
How many clinicians, practices and facilities there are in the US by Dmand AI’s count, and how each count is made.
How many doctors are there in the US?
Dmand AI counts 1.2M+ physicians (MD and DO) with an active NPI and a US practice address, as of October 25, 2026. The count includes every active physician NPI, such as physicians in research, administration or part-time practice, so it runs higher than workforce surveys that count only physicians in active patient care.
How many nurses are there in the US?
Dmand AI counts 950K+ nurses who hold their own NPI: nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, and registered and practical nurses who bill or prescribe under their own number. Most staff nurses never apply for an NPI, so this is not a count of every working nurse. Count as of October 25, 2026.
How many healthcare providers are in the US?
Dmand AI counts 7.4M+ HCPs with an active NPI, from physicians and nurses to therapists, pharmacists and behavioral health clinicians. It does not count healthcare workers without an NPI, such as most hospital staff, so employment counts from the Bureau of Labor Statistics run higher. Count as of October 25, 2026.
How many pharmacists, dentists and physician assistants are in the US?
Among clinicians with an active NPI and a US practice address, Dmand AI counts 334K+ pharmacists, 292K+ dentists and dental staff, and 224K+ physician assistants, as of October 25, 2026.

Dmand AI counts 90K+ pharmacies: retail and chain stores, independent pharmacies, and specialty, long-term care, compounding, hospital, mail-order and home infusion pharmacies.
What counts as one record in Dmand AI?
One HCP is one clinician with an active individual NPI. One hospital is one facility with its own CCN. One site of care is one unique location. One medical group is a practice of two or more clinicians billing under one organization. One executive is one person in a leadership or non-clinical role at a US healthcare organization. The table under Coverage lists every definition.
Why do Dmand AI’s counts differ from other sources?
Sources count different things. Workforce surveys count people in active practice, registries count everyone who holds an identifier, and hospital lists differ on whether outpatient departments, campuses and units count as hospitals. Dmand AI states the definition next to every count, so you can compare like with like.
How often are these counts updated?
Records refresh every month. The published counts change on every Dmand AI page on the same day when a new set is adopted, and each count on this page carries the date it was taken.
