The problem

Why org charts from contact databases send reps to the wrong people

Most sales data was built for companies with one headquarters and one email domain. Here is what each common source shows, and what Dmand AI shows instead.

Illustration: for each common data source, what its list shows next to what Dmand AI shows for the same health system.
  • Contact databases group people by email domain

One physician can work at three clinics and still have one email address.

  • Facility databases stop at the hospital

Outpatient departments, medical groups and the leaders who run them are missing.

  • Static lists miss ownership changes

Systems merge, rename and buy practices. Last year’s list shows the old parent.

Circle Health

I like Dmand AI’s extremely curated and comprehensive healthcare database, which you won’t find on any other platform with this level of detail. The ability to filter by specialty, location, independent physician or not, and many others is incredibly useful.

Health system org chart

Who runs a hospital and where buying decisions sit in a health system

Dmand AI maps both views of the same account: the tree from the IDN down to each site, and the leadership team inside each hospital.

  • Illustration: a health system tagged Approver above a medical group and a hospital, and a clinic under the hospital tagged Sponsor.

    Where buying decisions sit

The system signs contracts and sets standards, the hospital owns the budget, and the clinic that will use your product often starts the pilot. Most deals need a yes at both ends.

  • Illustration: a board of trustees above the president or CEO, with five chiefs below: operations, finance, nursing, medicine, and IT and EHR.

    Who runs a hospital

A board of trustees oversees the president or CEO. Five chiefs run operations, finance, nursing, medicine and IT, with directors and department chairs reporting to them.

FAQ

Hospital and health system org chart FAQs

Questions sales, recruiting and RevOps teams ask before they map an account. Something missing? Email hello@dmand.ai.

How do I find the org chart of a hospital or health system?

Public sources are scattered: the hospital’s leadership page, CMS ownership filings, state licensing records and press releases. Dmand AI puts them in one tree. Search the system or hospital, open Org Hierarchy, and you see the parent IDN, hospitals, outpatient departments, medical groups and sites, with the executives and HCPs at each.

Who runs a hospital?

A hospital is run by a president or CEO who reports to a board of trustees. Below the CEO, the chief operating officer runs daily operations and facilities, the chief financial officer owns the budget and purchase approvals, the chief nursing officer leads nursing staff and patient care, the chief medical officer leads physicians and quality, and the chief information officer owns IT systems and the EHR. Directors of nursing, department chairs, the VP of supply chain and the chief medical information officer report to these chiefs.

How can I tell which health system owns a hospital?

Check the hospital’s ownership filing with CMS and its parent’s website, or search the hospital in Dmand AI, which shows its direct parent, health system and IDN. Free hospital profiles on dmand.ai also list the parent and ultimate parent for each hospital.

What is the difference between an IDN and a health system?

A health system is a group of hospitals and care sites under shared ownership or management. An integrated delivery network (IDN) is a health system that also covers the wider continuum of care, such as physician groups, outpatient sites, post-acute care and sometimes a health plan, run as one network. Sales teams often use the two terms for the same organizations.

What is a hospital outpatient department?

A hospital outpatient department (HOPD) is a clinic or department that operates as part of a hospital, on or off its main campus, and bills under the hospital’s Medicare certification. In Dmand AI, each one sits under the hospital that runs it, with its own address, leaders and clinicians.

How does Dmand AI attach executives and HCPs to the right site?

Dmand AI maps physician-to-site, physician-to-medical-group and executive-to-organization affiliations against the org tree, including primary and secondary practice locations. People are linked to the place they work, not to the email domain they use.

Where does Dmand AI’s org hierarchy data come from?

The tree is built and reviewed by Dmand AI’s data team and cross-checked against public records, including CMS provider enrollment and ownership filings, CMS facility files, the NPPES NPI registry and state licensing filings.

How often is the org hierarchy updated?

Affiliations refresh continuously. The public files behind the tree update on their own schedules, monthly for the NPPES registry and quarterly for the CMS Provider of Services file, and Dmand AI applies changes as they arrive.

Does Dmand AI show org charts for medical groups and physician practices?

Yes. 181K+ medical groups and 235K+ solo practices are in the tree, each with its practice sites and HCPs. Groups owned by a health system sit under it, and independent groups are marked as independent.

Can I send people from an org chart to Salesforce or HubSpot?

Yes. Save the people at any node to a list, then sync it to Salesforce or HubSpot, or start a multi-channel sequence in Dmand AI.

Can I ask Claude for a health system’s hierarchy?

Yes. With the Dmand AI Claude MCP connector, ask Claude in plain English for a system’s hospitals, sites, leaders and contacts, and use the answer inside your own workflow.

Is Dmand AI an alternative to Definitive Healthcare for org charts?

For sales teams, yes. Both map US hospitals and IDNs. Dmand AI adds site-level contacts through waterfall enrichment and outbound in one login, with a self-serve free trial and published pricing. Definitive covers all-payer claims, which Dmand AI does not.

Is Org Hierarchy Explorer included in the free trial?

Yes. The 30-day trial previews the full dataset, fully searchable with trial credits. No credit card is needed.
